Seroquel can cause diabetes

The use of the antipsychotic medication Seroquel has been linked to an increased risk of diabetes, pancreatitis and death. Thousands of lawsuits have been filed throughout the United States by individuals who have suffered injuries from using Seroquel.
Recently, it was discovered that AstraZeneca, the drug maker,“buried” unfavorable studies on Seroquel, according to an internal e-mail unsealed as part of litigation over the medicine. The drugmaker failed to publicize results of at least three clinical trials of Seroquel and engaged in “cherry picking” of data from one of those studies for use in a presentation.
If you or a loved one has been diagnosed with diabetes after being on Seroquel you should contact an attorney to learn more about your rights.

Seroquel can cause diabetes

Recently, it was revealed that AstraZeneca, a drug maker, “buried” unfavorable studies on its antipsychotic drug Seroquel, according to an internal e-mail unsealed as part of litigation over the medicine. The drugmaker failed to publicize results of at least three clinical trials of Seroquel linked to diabetes and engaged in “cherry picking” of data from one of those studies for use in a presentation, an AstraZeneca official said in a December 1999. The London-based company faces about 9,000 lawsuits claiming it failed to properly warn users that Seroquel can cause diabetes and other health problems. Anyone in North Dakota or Minnesota who was on Seroquel and has now been diagnosed with diabetes should contact an attorney to determine their legal rights.

Bayer settling suits over contrast agent (Gadolinium) used for imaging tests.

Bloomberg News (4/16, Pearson, Fisk) reports that Bayer AG "has started settling lawsuits over its Magnevist contrast agent used in diagnostic imaging tests." In May 2007, the Food and Drug Administration "ordered...that all five gadolinium-based agents in the US carry a black-box warning, the agency's strictest caution." The products are "used to highlight internal organs in magnetic resonance imaging scans." The FDA claimed that "patients with weak kidneys who receive the gadolinium-based agents are at risk of nephrogenic system fibrosis."

Now, "Bayer, General Electric Co., and Tyco International Ltd. are among companies facing more than 300 lawsuits over complaints that contrast agents containing the chemical gadolinium may increase the risk of death in patients with weak kidneys."
